Project Runway

Speaking of Project Runway, season five has been a blast so far! I love the difficult challenges with crazy materials, so last week's episode with the car parts was super fun to watch for me. It was really impressive how some of the designers used the unusual items to create clothes.

After watching so many episodes of the show (and watching lots of reality tv in general), it does seem like there are some patterns. If someone isn't given much screen time, they're probably safe. When there is a lot of time devoted to one person, that person is probably at risk of going home (or the producers want us to THINK that the person is going home). So when Keith got lots of time to talk to the camera, I thought it was a clue that he was gonna get Auf'd. I wonder if this will hold true next week...

Fashion

Watching the first episode of the Cho Show I was excited to see Jeffrey Sebelia make an appearance. He was the winner of Project Runway Season 3. Margaret wore one of his dresses to accept the Korean of the Year Award. Katie and I are obsessed with Project Runway! If you haven't watched it you can catch the latest episodes, including the most recent drag queen challenge, on Bravo or Youtube now!

Teachers

As usual, on the first day of class I am always in the Graduate Office over some mixup. I was ticked off from walking back and forth on campus in this horrendous heat and humidity, but was caught off guard when my fourth grade teacher greeted me! She actually remembered me and I remembered her! She was a pretty cool teacher. Mrs. Singletary actually taught both me and Katie in elementary school. She now works in the Graduate Office recruiting teachers to get their Masters Degree. That made my day! :)

Cho Show

Speaking of celebrities I love, Katie informed me Margaret Cho has a new show on VH1. Margaret makes me laugh with her raw, truthful humor. I checked out the supertrailer and the show promises to keep it real. Check it out for yourself:

Funky Hair

When we were in middle school together, Dee always had the coolest hair. She put in blue streaks, dyed it all glo-orange, and a whole bunch of other colors, too. I thought it looked great, but I never tried anything like that myself.

Well, lately I've been thinking about dyeing my hair pink. I'm not sure why the desire came now, but I've been thinking about it since at least March when I made this ATC with colored pencil: Zetti Me

I finally did it! I decided that my hair was short enough that any disaster would grow out quickly. The in-between step when my hair was bleached but not yet pink was scary, but now it's pleasantly pink :) Pink hair

Smashing Pumpkins Concert

I'm going to see the Smashing Pumpkin perform this weekend in Charlottesville, VA!!! I am so excited! Billy Corgan has been on my mind ever since I made 3 ATCs of him. Now I get to see him in person (granted from a distance). This will be my fourth time seeing the band in concert. The first time was with Katie and my mom!

UPDATE: the concert was awesome! the set list included both new and old pumpkins songs. Billy, as usual, put on a great show and rocked it out. that man is amazing with a distortion pedal! you can check out some concert footage here.

Make It Mondays

Katie has not only gotten my hooked on making Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) but now to 'Make it Mondays,' which is essentially a site that challenges you to make something on a particular theme every week. The theme this week was the color yellow. I was also inspired to make this card because of a musicians portrait swap that Katie and I both joined. Billy Corgan is my favorite artist of all time, so I decided to keep this card all to myself :)

Audrey Hepburn Art

I couldn't help myself when I spotted these beauties at one of my favorite boutique stores (Cat Banjo in Raleigh, NC). The are spray painted pictures of Audrey on vinyl albums. They are signed by the artist, Garrett Gregory, and numbered. I couldn't resist the $20 price tag and bought two! Then luckily I found the album frames on sale at Michael's for $5 each. These are definitely great finds for an Audrey obsessed person like myself.

Welcome to Two Brains

Welcome to Two Brains! This blog is a collaboration between two childhood best friends that now live 687 miles apart (according to google maps). For years we have had the same interests or pushed the same interests on each other. So in this blog, we hope to make the distance seem shorter by sharing things that interest us yet again. Expect posts about art projects, music tastes, shopping purchases, and everything else two intelligent twenty-something women love to talk about!
Oh, and in case you are wondering about the blog title, here is the back story: one day one of our mother's convinced us we should start a T-shirt company. So we spent an entire afternoon trying to think of the coolest name for the company (mind you we were in middle school at the time). We were both top of our class throughout grade school, so we like to think we are pretty smart! So we decided Two Brains we would be the best name. We never started a T-shirt company, but I think this blog is the next best thing!
